Every fairytale has to come to an end and ours did, beginning with another dreaded flight on Virgin America back to LA...in all honesty, the seats on the plane are fairly comfortable, the service is acceptable but the air pressure just dreadful.. I had to suffer from a dry nose and throat all the way back again.
Anyway... we arrive back in LA in 1 piece, hired a small car for the duration of the trip and made our way back to Hotel Belamar... this time only needing a map rather than the GPS !! Yippee !we were getting FAMILIAR!!
Our room at the Hotel this time wasn't as big, but still reasonable... we were STARVING, so we stopped on the way to Hotel Belamar to grab a burger at CARL's JNR. We tried the massive Portobello Mushroom burger, which was delectable! Great patty, fresh vegetables and succulent mushroom.. way better than WHITE CASTLE.
This leg of the trip we took it easy, went to Manhattan beach, then to Venice beach to check out the world -famous Muscle beach, street basketball and the rollerblading chicks.. Muscle beach was quite empty but it did not disappoint!
On the last day before we flew back, we met up with CAROLINE LEE and her dear son JOSHUA, at Marina del Ray. She lives in a ground floor apartment with her husband Kenlip... we bought turkish lunch over, then took a jaunt to Venice Canals to visit the ducks with Joshua ( in a pram ) ... Joshua was going through a truck and plane phase... every trunk that went past : he would shout--TRUCK!!
We finally bid a sad goodbye to Caroline and Joshua at 1600h to leave for the airport before the horrendous traffic started...
Of course we get to the airport nice and early, quickly check in ( because we were afraid of the thought of security checks) breeze through... and then....there was NOTHING in the check- in area! No shops, cafes or entertainment, not even a TV screen... boy did we regret making our way in early.. so Madison gets her babyplus lesson...
AND FINALLY... was it a relief to board an SQ plane, read the STRAITS TIMES, and anticipate a great flight back! It was a really long flight back and we were exhausted by the time we arrived back in Singapore.
OF COURSE.. I have to give Changi International Airport a mention: WORLD'S BEST AIRPORT! Extensive facilities, friendly service and prompt movement of people! Home sweet home...
